Lot's of rambling here, sorry in advance...

Im not the only one that insists you "PLAY WHERE YOU STAY" but some just can't do that. What I mean is, why would you play anywhere else than where you are staying? Why throw money away (win or lose doesn't matter) at a property that you would never stay at? Only because of personal preference I wouldn't ever stay at SLS. I would go for dinner or meet friends there though. I might even play 10x odds craps there but for VERY low stakes. 25.00 with 250 behind maybe. Never 1000s. No value for me. Might as well go to a local indian casino.
I only play where I stay because I'm going to gamble anyway and I might as well get comps for my play. In most cases that adds up to 100s and 1000s of dollars. Don't play for the comps as they will just come with play.

Or, programs.... Staying at one property and going to another due to getting a loss rebate doesn't make sense to me either? For instance I might get a 10% loss rebate at casino #1 and a 3% loss rebate at casino #2. If I'm staying at casino #2 I am essentially getting back the 3% rebate plus 6k or so in what I call "retail" comps (room, food, bev and so on)... Casino #1 if I play and lose 50k let's say I get 5k. Great, but I lost 50k!!

One more thing, you go for a 4 day trip, you dont hate the hotel/casino you are going to but you LOVE others and you stay at that hotel because their "program" is MUCH better. Wouldn't you rather stay at the hotel you love and feel much more comfortable in for whatever reason than stay at the better program hotel? To me I'm already going and planning on losing (hopefully not) so stay at the hotel I love. Who cares about the $$$ coming back in rebates/programs. Isn't it adult, expensive entertainment anyway?

Promo chips don't count. We all go there check in play a little and bail. Don't we?

Do you believe in "play where you stay"?

Do you actually stay at a hotel/casino solely due to their program? (Even if you like another property much better) Why?

I'm a much smaller roller but we love cosmo so we stay there. Because I like to wander around, we double book at a CET prop and play and eat there some too. I like to ensure I'm getting my bang for my buck (i.e. losses haha).

I'm kind of interested in trying out mlife or Wynn /Encore, but like what we do now. We'll occassional play others, for example mlife props, but I the vast majority of my spend is now at cosmo, a little at CET, and the rest is practically incidental.

Well said GlenBaccarat! You and I are just about exactly the same in play, philosophy and we might have the same host! We are blessed and lucky to have that kind of host. Not many like that out there.

I think it's all about what you value most.

for me, the experience is paramount, so I stay where I'm most comfortable both in the room and at the tables regardless of the deal.

MGM is basically screwing everyone these days, myself included. so why would I keep staying there, when I can get a way better deal down the street at Cosmo? because I love the Mansion, am most comfortable at the tables there, win there the most frequently, my host takes great care of me and I enjoy the golfing and events. if it were all about the cash, Cosmo would be the only choice. but I don't like the hotel, don't really feel comfortable at the tables and rarely win there. so it makes no sense for me to ever stay there.

I've talked to Nate about this several times because he's totally different from me in that respect. he couldn't care less about the suite and doesn't care that much about the golf and events. he wants the best deal, so he goes where they give him the best deal regardless of any other the other perks.

neither is wrong, it's just a different value system.

So, play only where you stay?

Would you stay at say Tropicana because they will give you that 9000 sq ft room for the same play as you play now?

I like staying at the Mirage but I keep losing there and they have gotten rid of tiles. As a result I have been spending more trips playing/staying at Caesars properties. I like being able to move around properties in the CET family which I can't do with Mlife. I have been playing at Wynn and Encore more and more each trip and enjoy playing there but the issue I run into is that I get virtually no comps there compared to Mlife/Total Rewards. My per trip budget is usually in the 10K - 15K range per trip. I play BJ and Baccarat around 250/hand and play tiles about 500 per hand.

So I guess the summary is that my playing preferences aren't lining up with my staying preferences/deals.

I am small fish compared to you, bronco, shifter, sailboat, nate, PT etc...

I prefer to stay where I play... Granted at CET properties i always get a nice room, and thats fine, i do charge backs and most of it gets taken care of.

I stayed at Cosmo in December and I was very impressed, I guess I gambled *cough cough* lost enough 4700 there that I have 4 nights free until may and then I just got another flyer for 4 free nights.

Ive debated at staying at Wynn or Bellagio before, but I dont think I would even get free rooms there, as most know Im a 100-150 average craps player, and VP.

Why can't you at mlife? And if you are playing with 10 to 15k at 250 to 500 a hand at Wynn I guarantee you will get comps.

It was my understanding each property acts as its own when it comes to comps despite all being under the Mlife umbrella. If I'm staying at Mirage and go play the whole trip at Bellagio and Aria my Mirage host can't do much for me.

Not true. Well true and not true. You can get comps from any property but you will need a host at each. I stay at Aria. I needed a room at Mandalay, got a room comped from a host at Mandalay that my host set me up with. They can use comps from other mgm hotels.

Lets say I am staying at Mirage but playing at Aria. If I have a host at Aria and a host at MIrage where I am staying who gets credit for my play? Can my mirage host comp all my expenses despite no play there just like I was playing at Mirage?

In November I was credited with play at another MGM casino (other than the one I was staying at), with comps (resort fees/food) removed from bill at end of stay. I am terrible at the 'Stay and Play' concept, simply because I like the rooms better at one casino, and the table play at another mLife property (know dealers, pit bosses and waitresses well). Is this a relatively new policy?

Probably about 85% of play was at non-home casino, yet all charges taken off?

I usually stay between 5 - 7 nights, and normally get three nights comp upfront at casino A. Hate switching rooms 1/2 way through trip, so have to 'gamble' to pay for other nights! Nice to get credit for my play at other MGM properties though.

I only play where I stay. Losing feels better when you know it's going towards a free room/comp'd meals/points towards other stuff. That's why I hate gambling locally. If I go to my local casino and lose money, at most I'm getting a small meal comp'd and maybe a little freeplay next time. If I lose in Vegas, I'm getting a nice hotel room, some resort credit for free food/souvenirs plus I'm earning points that can be earned for more food/souvenirs. So yeah, I play where I stay and wouldn't do it any other way.

I should mention I'm loyal to CET, so I am able to play at multiple casinos and choose to stay at those same ones. I wouldn't really have fun in Vegas if I could only play at one property (aka Tropicana, or even the Wynn or Venetian). I really like having multiple options.

This is good news to hear that play from anywhere is fine. I was always told that they can not comp the same way on play at other properties as at their casino. The reasoning was the properties don't reimburse each other for the expenses. If I play at a different property than I stayed the other property got the benefit of the play and where I stayed had to foot the expenses of the comps. I might have been told this as the host where you are staying gets zero credit for your play at another property and is not motivated to help out, and their bosses don't want you to play elsewhere.
